Project Overview
Scrub works with Auckland Council community rangers to deliver school planting days at restoration sites across Rodney and Hibiscus and Bays.
The programme gives students practical experience of native restoration, with nursery-grown plants, prepared sites and hands-on guidance to help their planting get off to a good start.
Project Scale
Our role
Scrub prepares sites, supplies plants and equipment, and supports students throughout the planting day.
· Ecosourced native plant supply from the Scrub nursery
· Site layout before students arrive
· Spades and gloves for planting groups
· Practical planting demonstrations and guidance
· Support alongside Council community rangers
· Post-event planting checks and site tidying
Learning through planting
Each day starts with a conversation about how native plants support birds, insects and waterways. Scrub staff demonstrate planting techniques and work alongside students, answering questions and helping them plant with care.
Setting up for a good start
Plants and sites are prepared before the group arrives so students can focus on planting. Afterwards, Scrub checks the planted areas and tidies the site, helping the students’ work get the best possible start.
