Regional Parks Specialist Weed Control
Systematic weed searching and control across Auckland’s regional parks
Client:
Auckland Council
Location:
Auckland regional park network
Services:
Environmental Weed Control / GIS Mapping & Reporting

Project Overview
Auckland Council manages environmental weed species and animal pests through its 40,000ha + Regional Park network via a strategic long term control programme. Contractors are essential to delivering this programme and a select group of capable pre-approved contractors sit on the Council-managed Enviropanel.
Scrub has been on the Enviropanel since its beginnings in 2015 and has delivered a range of weed control works across numerous regional parks. Scrub is currently the incumbent contractor for the following regional parks:
- Tawharanui Open Sanctuary (approx 300ha actively searched)
- Wenderholm Regional Park (approx 95ha actively searched)
- Te Muri – Mahurangi East Regional Park (approx 130ha actively searched)
- Te Arai Regional Park (approx 60ha actively searched)

Our role
Scrub provides experienced field teams with specialist weed identification, grid-searching and control skills.
· Systematic grid searches across assigned park areas
· Identification and control of environmental weeds
· Rechecking recorded infestations and recording new finds
· Field navigation and location records using Field Maps
· GPS tracklogs and search coverage maps
· Reporting of weed locations and herbicide use
Searching systematically
The programme covers varied coastal and forest landscapes. Grid searching provides a structured way to locate infestations across assigned blocks, including less accessible areas where weeds can be difficult to detect.
Keeping a record of every visit
Field Maps is used to locate boundaries and known infestations and to record new weed finds. GPS tracklogs document crew movements, while coverage maps, weed records and herbicide-use reports give Council a clear record of the work completed.
