Radiata Properties Ecological Management
Planning protected forest and native corridors across former pine forestry land
Client:
Radiata Properties Ltd

Project Overview
Native bush survived and regenerated among the pines on three former forestry properties in Taupaki. Scrub prepared an Ecological Management Plan covering native forest, a raupō wetland and new revegetation areas.
The protection and planting framework supports rural-residential development while connecting the site with a wider network of significant natural areas extending towards the Waitākere Ranges.

Our role
Scrub provided ecological assessment, significance assessment and long-term management planning for existing habitats and proposed planting areas.
· Vegetation, wetland and bird surveys, including drone surveys
· Significance assessment against Auckland Unitary Plan criteria
· Revegetation design targeting kauri, podocarp and broadleaved forest
· Site preparation, planting, maintenance and monitoring specifications
· Pest plant and animal control programmes
· Fencing and legal protection advice
Recognising existing habitats
Scrub assessed bush beyond the mapped Significant Ecological Areas, including endangered forest and habitat used by threatened species. The raupō wetland was also assessed as significant and filters water flowing towards protected wetlands downstream. The plan also addresses native scrub retained through pine harvesting and weed control.
Planting the gaps
Planned revegetation across 30.5 hectares is designed to connect the existing habitats. Ecosourced pioneer species such as kānuka and mānuka will form a nurse crop, with birds bringing seed from surrounding bush as the planting develops towards native forest.
