Project Overview
The Brookby Quarry Mitigation Project is a long-term ecological restoration and mitigation programme associated with the quarry’s development and expansion.
Scrub supplies and plants ecosourced native species and translocates rare plants from areas scheduled for removal, working alongside the quarry’s ecological consultants and management team.

Our role
Scrub provides specialist seed collection, plant production and planting services. Site preparation and ongoing maintenance are undertaken by others.
· Ecosourced collection of pioneer and uncommon canopy species
· Rare plant collection and translocation ahead of quarry expansion
· Native plant production and supply
· Planting, including canopy and diversity species within established areas
· Advice on site preparation and maintenance
· Coordination with botanists and the quarry environmental manager
Planning for plant diversity
Scrub works with the quarry’s independent botanists and management team to refine species lists each year in response to seed availability. Collecting uncommon softwood and hardwood species over multiple years supports a diverse planting programme.
Working within an active quarry
The programme follows strict quarry health and safety requirements and is subject to independent ecological auditing. Audit feedback has consistently supported the quality of Scrub’s planting methods and establishment outcomes. Rare plant translocation requires work to be coordinated ahead of quarry progression.
